parts of the landscape

If I look straight out of this window, in a straight line, I can see A boat and a tree, and a road with a bus. When the sun comes out it all looks
orange like the boat: “Rescue Zone”.

Focus.

If you stop in the middle of the jungle and look in a straight line, you can hear monkeys and trees that look like snakes that you can’t see. A man who used to live in the jungle moved to the city. Now he finds more coins, buttons and things on the asphalt than anyone else he knows.

Looking is also like waiting. Waiting for something to happen. The best part of being bored is when you forget that your eyes are open.
There are many telescopes pointing towards the same place and they can’t see it because the place is moving and so are we. They never get bored. They wait and then they find, and then they wait again. Lost and found and lost. All the things are moving but slowly. They say that young whales eat so much that you can actually see them grow.

From here I can see a boat that is moving and someone who is sitting on it, moving also. Waiting. If you concentrate you can see straight into it, like
through a hollow tube. You can see all the layers covering one another, exchanging tides. Boat-bus, man-whale-boat…wave-man-planet-rescue-zone.

relatives

There was this lady who drank so much that she took her bike home and ended up underwater.

Thanks to her necklace she didn't float but stood standing upside down in the bottom of the water. She got eaten by the fish and the dirt and in the end only little beads showed up on the surface.

A man was walking one day and saw a few white dots floating around and said “that's my aunt”.

The best moment inside an airplane is when it!s taking off, early on a cloudy day. You are sitting inside the dark tube with everyone else, looking forward. Some people are reading, and some people are trying to sleep. People who are scared look the same as people who are bored.

Then it runs and then it flies, and as it goes through the clouds it shakes. Then the sun starts to flash in through the little windows. The dots flash all over. This is what the inside of a flute must look like, and this is what it must sound like too.

the keepings

When Brynjar was little his favourite thing to do was to look at the book with the flags of the world. He would play the game of choosing the order in
which he would eat them. The tasty ones would be left for last. One day he was asked to paint a fox and that's when they realised his colour blindness. Sometimes you are doing something and then you find another.

The difference between the archeologist and the archivist is that one searches and the other doesn't, but they both find.

Some days ago some scientists began collecting seeds from all the plants in the world. They find them, put them in a specific order, and then they send
them to an island in the north pole. The seeds sit there in silence, still for just in case.

The north pole is not a place but a lot of islands of ice moving around like a herd in a place where you can't distinguish between the white and the snow. There's people who study the way these islands move, if they speed up or if they are melting. In one of those studies they found the hand of a dinosaur that no one understands. There are many dinosaurs sitting at the bottom of the north pole. Waiting like plants to be found.

An archeologist seeks and organises. He chooses what goes first and what deserves to wait. The archivist keeps the pieces in an order that no one
understands, but that is somehow very important:

- an edible branch
- a kernel
- a hand
- a blue fox

crash

They say that walking on the street is just as dangerous as flying in an airplane.

Get out of bed, use a bar of soap in the shower, toast the bread in a toaster, go down the stairs, walk outside on the snow, cross the street, ride in a taxi, eat airport food, get on a plane and fly.

Yes, it is very dangerous.

We are all the time in collision routes. With cars and with people, with machines and with lovers, the left side hits the right side and something
happens. One day I was riding with my friend in his car. He was sitting on the left, and I was sitting on the right. He was driving, and I can’t remember what I was doing. We were on holidays and had been driving for hours. Everything looked so nice, and we were both past that point when you feel like you have to be talking all the time. We just sat in the car and everything was passing by very quickly, and very beautifully: placid speed. Then he said, “all it takes is for me to jerk the steering wheel to one side and that’s it”.

A friend got a divorce last weekend and he got very sad. Because of his separation he began to have pain on the left lung. Then he began to limp
because his left knee got swollen. And then the x-rays revealed that his hip has a left-ward inclination. Apparently everything has a logic. The doctor who specialises in these matters had him on a special treatment in order to make his separation better -the separation between the side that hurts and the side that doesn’t. Me and all his other friends listen to him and buy him drinks in order to make his separation better- the one on the side that hurts.

The other day Øistein drank so much that he thought it would be easy to climb a wall and hang from a nice big glass lamp. He fell down and hit the
ground head first and instead of dying he now can’t hear anything on one side of his head. He called me the other day to tell me that he saw a beautiful
accordion like the one I wanted to buy and I just couldn’t stop thinking that telephones only work on one side of the head.

An accordion is a musical instrument with the characteristic that everything on it sounds good. It has buttons on one side and a keyboard on the other,
you just press them and it sounds good. In the mean time you just help it to breathe: in and out, in and out. It is miraculous.

Contents of music: a left side and a right side.

Parts of an accident: two sides.
